For decades, Israel has used sweeping restrictions on movement and access between parts of the occupied Palestinian territory to advance illegitimate political and demographic goals, at the expense of Palestinian lives and human rights.
Suffocated by more than 16 years of closure, Gaza was deemed 'unlivable' years before the horrific events of October 7 and the launch of Israel's unprecedented siege and military assault on the Strip. Now, as Israel continues to rain death and destruction on the Strip's 2.2 million inhabitants, Gaza is facing an unspeakable, yet entirely avoidable catastrophe.
What is the situation in the Strip today, and how did we get here? What obstacles continue to obstruct the crucial operations of aid organizations in Gaza and block access to life-saving supplies? What has changed since October 7, and what needs to happen to prevent further atrocities?
