In this course we will investigate different struggles - both small and large - with a focus on struggles that took place in the recent history of Israel-Palestine. We will learn about interesting and surprising partnerships between different groups that changed the history and current reality around us. Whether through grassroots initiatives or institutionalized organizations, we’ll examine the connections between struggles and the challenges that arose from them. Towards the second-half of the course, students will create reports related to intersecting struggles that took place in the places they come from (either where they were born or grew up) and will present them to the rest of their classmates. Additionally, throughout the course, students will receive short reading and writing assignments on the course topic as well as different related topics, such as intersectional identities, status, gender, and more. In The Economy Of Occupation, we dive into the world of economy, money, and power in Israel–Palestine — past and present. Through reading texts, watching videos, and engaging in lively discussions, we'll explore the region’s economic structures and ask critical questions: Is this one economy or two? Who benefits from the current system? How does the occupation affect markets and livelihoods? We’ll examine key historical developments, ongoing economic realities, and everyday life through a socio-economic lens — all while building your Hebrew vocabulary and confidence in speaking. Students will learn essential economic terms in Hebrew, analyze real-world materials, and practice articulating complex ideas in the language. All advanced learners are welcome to this course. In this course, you'll expand your vocabulary, refine your grammar, and practice speaking more confidently on a range of topics. You'll focus on mastering past tense verbs, construct nouns (smikhut), and the ability to express more complex ideas. By the end of the course, you’ll be able to discuss Israeli culture, social issues, and current events, as well as have longer, more fluid conversations on a variety of subjects. This immersive course is taught by native-speaking Hebrew teachers, ensuring that you learn from experts who speak the language in their daily lives. In this course we will learn about Arab cinema from the twentieth century, watch movies, get to know actors and try to understand different Arab social and cultural issues through cinematic scenes. Together we will analyze the components of the story, the design of the characters and the main themes that the cinematic work deals with. In the course, we will visit (albeit virtually) a number of Arab cinemas that emerged and shaped the general Arab culture in the twentieth century. The course will be divided into three parts so that in the first part we will focus on cultural and creative centers in the Arab world like Cairo, Damascus, Beirut, Baghdad and more. In the second part we will talk about the different genres and the expression of Arab culture in movies. And in the third part we will focus more on the different players and their work. Beginner Plus 2 is the final stage of the beginner sequence and prepares students for pre-intermediate-level Arabic. The course deepens students’ use of the past tense while expanding their ability to speak in longer, more connected discourse. This course explores how language exists in space, on street signs, shop names, graffiti, and public walls, and what these spaces tell us about identity, power, and belonging. We’ll look at where Arabic appears and where it’s absent, and how the visibility of language reflects the politics of place. Through photos, maps, readings, and short field activities, we’ll analyze linguistic landscapes in our surroundings and practice expressing ideas about space, culture, and everyday life. Students will build vocabulary related to directions, places, and public environments, while strengthening fluency and confidence in discussing complex social and political realities in Arabic.
