Do you have a solid foundation in Beginners Hebrew (see below) but struggle in real life situations? Do you want to be able to express yourself in daily life but also to navigate more unexpected situations? TINAU’s Beginner Plus course will give you tools to seriously level up what you can do and how comfortable you feel speaking and learning Hebrew. We will do this together through plenty of conversational practice and varied activities, learning to use more complex grammatical structures, the past tense, and plenty of reading and writing practice. Of course, This is Not an Ulpan, so - there will be opportunities to suggest topics and influence the pace and methods of the course, and learners will gain insights into the overall cultural and socio-political complexity of Israel. Throughout the course, our kind and creative teachers will support you through the tough parts of language learning so that you can enjoy the journey. Previous knowledge: Ability to read and write in Hebrew (slowly is fine!) Can navigate basic conversations in daily life, such as “small talk” questions and answers, numbers and describing your daily routine Use of grammatical structures including: conjugating present tense and infinitive verbs; questions and answers, possession and other prepositions Learning outcomes: Improve proficiency reading and writing without vowels Ability to create longer and more complex sentences, to go “off script”, to communicate on a wider variety of topics and navigate more situations in daily life Understanding and using more complex grammar, including: past tense verbs, conjugated prepositions, “irregular” nouns Beginning to talk about Israeli social issues and cultural topics *** We have made a small change in our pricing structure and are now offering a sliding scale in order to give you the opportunity to donate 100 or 200 shekels when you buy a course. TINAU’s Beginners course teaches the basics of Hebrew to complete beginners (as well as those who have mastered a few words already!), giving you the tools to feel good speaking and learning this new language. We will get straight into communicating in Hebrew, as well as learning to read and write, and understanding the fundamental grammatical structures. By the end of the course, you'll have learned vocabulary and sentence structures for simple day-to-day interactions and tasks such as introducing yourself, polite requests and shopping. Students will get to enjoy the TINAU style of teaching which is flexible around the interests and needs of the learners, and includes interactively experiencing the new language through songs, games, role-play conversations and more. TINAU’s beginner’s Arabic course will allow you to build a solid understanding of the Arabic language, practice-relevant vocabulary for daily life interactions and gain deeper knowledge of Palestinian society, culture and politics along the way. This course is conversational, but you will also study Arabic reading and writing. And as for speaking: you'll learn the Palestinian dialect (Amia) meaning you'll be ready to go ahead and engage with your surroundings in Arabic! Our classes are based on the principle of immersion, meaning we'll stick to Arabic in class as much as possible- but if we need to explain in a different language, our go-to-language is English to accommodate the diversity of backgrounds among our students. In this advanced Hebrew course, we will look at how both mainstream and independent media in Israel have behaved during the war and over the past decade. We'll explore what is often left out of coverage, the topics that get the most attention, and the issues that are considered off-limits. We'll also analyze how the media reports on stories from outside Israel and how controversial issues are covered, thinking about how these representations shape public opinion. The course will include writing assignments that allow participants to creatively engage with the topics we discuss, though no prior experience in creative writing is required. By the end, you will have a better understanding of how media works in Israel and have improved your writing skills in a way that connects to the critical issues we cover. All advanced learners are welcome to this course. We will be using a variety of interactive activities, and giving plenty of space for learners to express themselves and their ideas in speaking and writing.
